EXTRA INFORMATION:
Station type of work - The station is very busy, lots of activities in all areas and a great place to start your career in the patrol. Duties include 10 man ATV unit and a dedicated 10 man Sign cutting unit, highway interdiction and occasional checkpoints; occasional bus checks; sign cutting; also have atv's, horse patrol and canine units. All of the agents are very helpful. Post academy class are held here at the station.
Terrain: Flat valley floors with scrub brush, mesquite, manzanita, etc., broken by large, high mountain ranges (Big Hachet is over 9000' elevation). Most of the area we patrol is rural ranch, therefore, no X's. A few roads traverse the area, and there are a couple of small towns.
Shopping - 6 convenience stores, gas stations, major shopping needs to be done in nearby towns (Deming, Silver City). Whatever you can't find there, can be found in Tucson, Las Cruces or El Paso.
Eateries - 8 restaurants that serve Mexican, and American food, six fast food restaurants (McDonalds, etc)
Cellular Telephone -
Local Internet Providers - Wi-Power 1-866-215-5333
TWN Transworld Network 1-800-950-3015
Other Services - Great location for outdoor folks, great hunting (from dove to white tail) and great fishing. Hiking is also good. (Gila Cliff Dwellings/Gila National forest is nearby) Silver City is an up and coming artists community that the City Council is trying hard to provide cultural for it's citizens. (Some call it a small Santa Fe.) Due to this, it's a bit more expensive then Deming to live. However, visit all three locations and find out what's best for your living necessities.
Any other information that you would like to add:
Lordsburg is a small town on I-10, halfway between El Paso and Tucson. Some of the agents do live in the town but the majority live either in Silver City or Deming (or places in between.) Lordsburg does have an apartment complex that you can rent from but also has Section 8 tenants. It's a matter of preference. Lordsburg has tons of sunshine. If you want seasons, head up to Silver City, high desert climate with snow, fall and the sun. Deming's elevation is lower so it still has the desert heat/weather.
