EXTRA INFORMATION:
Station type of work - Border Patrol Duties
in around the areas west of Nogales to the
Sasabe, Arizona (Line watch & Tracking), Local duties
for at that
responds to the needs of at least 12 different Law Enforcement
Agencies.
Tucson is a killer Station. To get started we are bulking
our station up big time. Right now we are getting our
teeth kicked in, pero so is all of Arizona. Off the bat
you will be working normal patrol duties.
It will take a few years until you can get a detail. But
when you get a detail here are some that we have; horse
patrol, atv's, disrupt, intel, sensors, VCO (vehicle control
officer), VSO (vehicle seizure officer), FTO (field training
unit), post academy, firearms, ASP/OC re certification
instructor, explorers, we are working on getting our bike
(mountain) patrol back up, we are getting K-9's at the
beginning of the year, IR scopes, prosecutions, immigration
court liaison sp??, and a few others I might have forgotten.
Duties vary quite a bit. We do have a few "critical"
positions, they are our version of X's. They are simply
that you must go to the designated area, and work traffic
from that area (the areas are quite big also). If working
that traffic takes you 30 miles away, then so be it. I
don't think you could hardly call them X's. Right now
we have 2 towers on the highways.
They are a form of an X, you are elevated and observe
traffic and call out Alien/dope loads to chase cars. You
will only get this once and a while, and even less frequent
with the more and more people EODing to the station.
We work the area from I-19 to the Bobaquiveri (sp??) mountains.
Look it up on a map, its HUGE. He work the desert and
the highway. And slowly but surely we are working our
way back into the city. In the desert you will work sensors,
or just cut for and track sign. Every thing from dope,
people, to drive through vehicles. On the highways we
work smuggling loads, dope and people.
Things seem to be changing for the better right now. The
Agents at the station are a great bunch of people. Our
management is even pretty decent, with some exceptions
of course. Rumor has it that we soon will be working in
town (city patrol) again, but this is just a rumor. I
can't say enough about the station, its a great station.
Just remember that it's the only station that I have worked
at, but I have worked along side Agents from other stations
in Arizona, and some from San Diego.
Plenty of jobs for significant others,
a major University, muchos hospitals, plenty of culture
and stuff to do. Plus we are only about a 2 hour drive
from Phoenix.
