Rio Grande has been growing steadily for the past ten years. It is a nice town to bring up kids and for family barbecues. There is a lake about 30 minutes: "Falcon's Lake Park". There is always something going on. There is enough to choose from churches, medical services for the entire family, auto shops, dealerships, pharmacy's, flower shops, one dry cleaners, several schools, lawyers, court house, sheriff's office and a police department.

The nearest movies are in Mission, Texas which s about 35 minutes away depending on where you reside. The mall is about 55 minutes away. There are several banks: Teachers Credit Union, IBC, Texas State Bank, Lonestar National Bank, Starr Banking Center and First National Bank

Outdoor activities: Rio Grande City is in close in proximity to Falcon Lake and South Padre Island, TX is only a 1 1/2- 2 hour drive away. McAllen is only 35 miles away where there is an abundance of Hospitals, Dr.'s, shopping and Eateries. Hunting in the area is something to be desired.

Entertainment:
Starplex Cinema 10, Peter Piper Pizza, Chili's Bar and Grill. McAllen has more in the way of entertainment , for children there are several city parks, Welfare and Rec program, Chuck E Cheese, the Zone, Bowling, Roller Skating, Gymboree, and the Little Gym, Boys and Girls Club, For the more mature crowd there is a club district on 17th st in Down town McAllen and several other night spots around town. Availability of housing, with general conditions and costs.
There is limited availability on housing with the exception of a few apartment complexes and the the occasional rental. Spec building is at a stand still. With custom built homes becoming more popular. The newer subdivisions are located in and around the Hospital and just North of it . The closest Realtor you'll find will be in McAllen.

Summary of cost-of-living
The cost of living is relatively low because of the poverty level in the area.
