Basic information regarding the Academy
The accommodations at the academy are VERY
nice. The rooms are very similar to that of a small new
motel six. There is cable TV and approximately 40 channels
to choose from. The rooms are 1 man rooms with a bathroom/shower
that is shared with another room. The bed is actually
comfortable though it is a tad bit too short for tall
guys.
Maid service comes in Mon-Fri to distribute
new towels, pick up the old ones and do a quick clean
up job of the room, bed and the bathroom. The AC and Heaters
work well. There is a phone in each room. Local calls
are free and you can receive long distance calls to your
room. There is an ironing board and an iron in each room.
The food is actually very good and it is
FREE. Kind of like a Furr's cafeteria, Luby's or Hometown
buffet as far as the meals. I actually wouldn't be amazed
if people gain weight their first week there, until their
first full out PT day in which everyone realized they
are way out of shape and begin eating healthy.
Classroom facilities are very impressive.
Some are extremely professional in appearance and very
well equipped and some are of the "portable"
variety, but still very decent.
Instructors are all very professional and
unlike many of the other academies I or people I know
of have attended they are pushing for each and every person
in the class to succeed, this in and of itself is a great
asset to any BP hopefuls.
PT is HARD. plain and simple even if you
are in good or great shape you will still find it HARD.
Don't expect the academy to get you in shape, you have
to be in good shape to even hang in there in the beginning.
You are provided with all the PT gear/clothing you will
need with the exception of running shoes (I HIGHLY suggest
you get a great pair).
Court shoes are NOT needed.
For the time being it appears that they
are allowing POV's to be brought in. However, as a matter
of simple respect I urge everyone to first run this idea
through their law instructors as well as first get approval
to leave and go pick up your vehicle once you are here.
The computer facilities are more than adequate
and are located right next to the dormitories. One can
either print out documents, work on assignments or surf
the web. It is not difficult to get a workstation as it
does not fill up to capacity at all. Many have stated
they have problems accessing yahoo and hotmail email accounts
from there.
Laundry facilities are free, no need to
bring any quarters. But I am sure they will be very busy
once there is more than just 3-4 classes there.
Exercise facilities are top notch, even
though after your first few PT sessions, it is doubtful
you will be able to even move due to being so sore, let
alone try to get a work out in there.
Artesia, is a small town. The K-mart has
almost anything you might really need. They have a Hastings
in which you can get magazines, coffee, CD's, DVD's or
even go and study. The shuttle there works much like a
Taxi (but is FREE) The driver will pretty much drive you
to where you ask in town and pick you up where he dropped
you off.
